The Group's worldwide sales and distribution network is one of its key strategic competitive advantages, with around 100 sites in about 50 countries on every continent.
BÖHLER-UDDEHOLM employs around one third of its total workforce in the sales and distribution, which represents an extraordinary high proportion in the steel industry. This is due on the one hand to the fact that the sale of tool steel is extremely service and consultancy intensive and often requires extensive technical know-how from the sales personnel. On the other hand it is a question of continually building upon the loyalty of our customers through the high quality of our service in daily business, to react quickly and flexibly to the needs of customers on site, and to provide customers not only with steel but also services and technical know-how. New facilities for machining and heat treatment serve to extend the value added chain to customers.
Added services such as sawing, milling, drilling, surface processing and heat treatment extend the Groups value-added chain. These services are increasingly demanded and meet the rapidly changing needs of our customers.
BÖHLER-UDDEHOLM has an extremely fragmented customer structure and is not dependent upon a few major customers. Over 100,000 customers are therefore supplied with products and services worldwide from the BÖHLER-UDDEHOLM Group. The most important customer sectors include the automotive and automotive supplier industries, tool and machinery manufacturers, aircraft manufacturers, consumer goods and electronics industries, wood and saw industries, textile and paper industries, steel and apparatus construction, power generation, oilfield technology and plant construction.
In order to be able to meet these requirements, the sales and distribution companies have their own warehouses on site, as the result of which it is possible to significantly reduce delivery times to customers.
BÖHLER-UDDEHOLM pursues a multi-brand strategy. That means separated selling teams under unified management sharing the areas of administration and logistics. The "BÖHLER", "UDDEHOLM", "VILLARES METALS" and "BUDERUS EDELSTAHL" brands are long-established and will be maintained to ensure continuity for clients and to optimize market penetration.
Germany is the largest single market for BÖHLER-UDDEHOLM. The primary sales markets are Europe, America and Asia. The Group is one of few European steel manufacturers with a presence on nearly all Asian markets, where it has been active for almost 60 years.
